Foxtrot Twinkle
(Intermediate) See Video

A popular intermediate step in Foxtrot, the Twinkle can be done Open or Closed. Here we will describe the Closed Twinkle. See Video for Foxtrot Twinkle to see a demonstration of both the Closed and Open Twinkles, and read the text instructions below.

Gentleman's Footwork - The Gentleman begins by stepping forward with is left foot (slow.) His next step is a side step that will move diagonally forward and to the right (quick). On this first "quick" count, the Gentleman also begins to lead the Lady into promenade position He finishes by closing his feet and settling his weight onto his left foot. He then begins stepping out on his right foot (slow). And he turns to face his partner and closes his feet for the "quick, quick". The complete count for this step is "slow, quick, quick, slow, quick, quick".

Lady's Footwork - The Lady begins by stepping back on her right foot (slow). She takes her next step diagonally back on her left foot (quick). On this first "quick" count, the Gentleman will lead her into promenade position. As he does so, she collects her legs together (on this first "quick"). When he settles his weight, that is the lead for her to settle her weight on her right foot, on the second "quick". She then steps out on her left foot (slow), turns back into dance position (facing her partner) and closes her feet for "quick, quick".
