Here are two basic patterns for this lively Latin dance. Easy to learn and execute so there is lots of opportunity to practice your Cuban Motion and have fun with the timing of this hot sexy dance.

Gentleman Footwork - The Gentleman begins on his left foot. He starts by taking 4 steps forward staying in closed dance position. He begins the separation with the next 4 steps, which he takes backward. At the same time he lowers both hands to the level of the Lady's waist. The partners thus wind up facing each other in open dance position.

For the Underarm Turn, the Gentleman keeps the open dance postion and raises his left hand up and a little out to the left, leading his Lady to do an Underarm Turn, as he marches in place for 8 counts.

Remember that while 8 counts is the standard, this turn can also be done as a 6 count turn or a fast 4 count turn.

Lady's Footwork - The Lady starts on her right foot, taking 4 marching steps backward, while continuing in closed dance postion. For the Separation, the Lady marches in place 4 counts as the Gentleman moves 4 counts backward. Then as the Gentleman brings the Lady's right hand down to the level of her waist, she slides her left hand down his arm and they partners face each other in open dance position.

For the Underarm Turn, as the Gentleman raises her right hand the Lady does a complete 8 count turn, winding up again facing her partner. The speed of the Gentleman's lead will tell the Lady if she is dong a slow 8 count turn, a 6 count turn or a fast 4 count turn.
