Waltz Hesitations - Dance Lesson from TC Dance Club International Kansas City
WALTZ HESITATIONS (Basic) See Video

In dancing Waltz, the Hesitation step can help the gentleman navigate a crowded dance floor and also provide variety to the dance. Hesitations can be done forward and back and to either side.

Gentleman's Waltz Hesitation Footwork - The gentleman steps forward on his left foot for the count of "1." He then keeps his weight on his left foot as he drags and collects his right foot forward for the counts of "2" and "3". He should be finished with the step by "3" and his legs should be together. The gentleman then steps backward with his right foot. He keeps his weight on his right foot as he drags and collects his feet for the counts of "2" and "3", as above.

He then steps with his left foot to the side for the count of "1". Keeping his weight on his left foot he drags and collects his right foot to the side for the counts of "2" and "3". He steps to the side with his right foot for the count of "1". Keeping his weight on his right foot, he drags and collects his left foot to the side for the counts of "2" and "3". He ends the step with his legs together.

Lady's Waltz Hesitation Footwork - The lady steps backward on her right foot for the count of "1." She then keeps her weight on her right foot as she drags and collects her left foot forward for the counts of "2" and "3". She should be finished with the step by "3" and her legs should be together. The lady then steps forward with her left foot. She keeps her weight on her left foot as she drags and collects her feet for the counts of "2" and "3", as above.

She then steps with her right foot to the side for the count of "1". Keeping her weight on her right foot she drags and collects her left foot to the side for the counts of "2" and "3". She steps to the side with her left foot for the count of "1". Keeping her weight on her left foot, she drags and collects her right foot to the side for the counts of "2" and "3".She ends the step with her legs together.
