One of the more amusing antidotes about Foxtrot occurred in the early 1950's when "rock and roll' music first emerged. People were unsure what kind of dance to do to the new style of music, and this included the big Decca Record company. When Decca released the soon-to-be mega hit "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets they labeled it as a "Foxtrot." Considering that song went on to sell more than 25 million copies, that makes "Rock Around the Clock" the biggest selling Foxtrot of all time.
Foxtrot is more appropriately danced to big band style music in 4/4 time. Called a "progressive" or "walking" dance, Foxtrot is a ballroom dance that travels across the floor. Using the correct heel and toe leads is therefore important and it is necessary to be aware of correctly moving along the line of dance with the other couples on the floor. The basic count for the dance is slow, slow, quick, quick. Here you'll learn the correct dance frame, the basic step for both gentleman and lady and see the baisc step done to music.
