The Separation and the Underarm Turn are two of the most often done patterns in Merengue. Because the Merengue basic step is a simple marching step, these patterns provide a good opportunity for the partners, and especially the Gentleman as the leader, to personalize the dance by experimenting with different counts in the patterns and the timing. Video 1 shows you first what the Merengue Separation and Underarm Turn look like, then the insructors break down the Gentleman's footwork for the patterns, followed by a breakdown of the Lady's footwork.
Video 2 shows how you can change the timing for these patterns, and for the basic Merengue step.Instead of the standard 8 counts, you'll see how to use a faster 4 count timing and how to hold for a count, so you can add variation to the dance. Video 2 then shows you the dance done to music, demonstrating these variations as well as some more advanced patterns and turns.
