Samba is the Brazilian party dance, quick and lively. One of the more popular Samba patterns, the Copacabana is stylish and fun to do. All important in the man's lead for this pattern is his left hand, which he brings down to the Lady's hip line in order to lead the Copacabana pattern. At the same time he turns the Lady into Promenade dance position. The Gentleman's hand remains at the Lady's hip line for the entire step. At the end of the Copa pattern (the last 3 counts) the Gentleman brings his hand back to dance position, signaling the end of the step.
The Copa itself is a "check" step -- stop, pull back, stop, pull back. Again the Gentleman is using his left hand to signal the lead. Video 1 shows you what the Copacabana pattern looks like and how it is counted. We then show the Gentleman's footwork, followed by the Lady's footwork. Video 2 lets you see what the Samba Copacabana looks like done to music.
