The Scallop is an exciting and challenging dance pattern. It is illustrative of the "Interrelated System of Dance" where the same pattern can be done in several different ballroom dances. The Scallop is a combination of several smaller patterns -- fifth position breaks, swivels, 2nd and 2th position steps, and in dancing the Cha Cha, the Scallop also includes a locking step.
Our Video shows the Scallop pattern in Cha Cha,. You will see the man's footwork and then the lady's. As a point of interest, this pattern can also be done in Rumba. The difference between the Scallop pattern in Rumba and in Cha Cha is the timing of the dance. In both dances the Scallop has similar components -- the fifth positions, the swivels, 2nd and 4th position steps. Finally we will see the Scallop pattern in Cha Cha done to music.
