The Scallop is an exciting and challenging dance pattern. It is illustrative of the "Interrelated System of Dance" where the same pattern can be done in several different ballroom dances. The Scallop is a combination of several smaller patterns -- fifth position breaks, swivels, 2nd and 2th position steps, and in dancing the Cha Cha, the Scallop includes a locking step. Video 1 shows the Scallop in Rumba, the man's dance step footwork and then the lady's and then shows the Rumba Scallop danced to music.
Video 2 will show the Scallop pattern in Cha Cha. Again, you see the man's footwork and then the lady's. The difference between the Scallop in Rumba and in Cha Cha is the timing of the dance. In both dances the Scallop has similar components -- the fifth positions, the swivels, 2nd and 4th position steps. We'll then see the Scallop pattern in Cha Cha done to music.
