STYLE IN WALTZ
TC Dance Club Kansas City

The Waltz is an elegant traveling and turning dance that moves along the Line of Dance. It is characterized by flowing movements and graceful rise and fall. So much of the beauty of the Waltz is created through the style, technique and personality that the partners bring to their dancing. It is the essence of formal elegance and the way the couple hold themselves, and together, hold their frame is all important. The video shows how to achieve the right style and look in your Waltz, emphasizing the the "Three P's of Dancing" - Posture, Poise and Personality.

The Waltz should appear as though the couple is "floating" across the dance floor, almost effortlessly. An important element to this is the "rise and fall" action that is used in the Waltz. The video also shows how to use a different count to greatly improve your own rise and fall action. You'll see basic as well as intermediate steps when our Waltz is done to music. Notice that American Style Waltz (seen here), as opposed to International Style, involves the couple breaking contact almost entirely in some patterns.
