One of the more amusing antidotes about Foxtrot occurred in the early 1950's when "rock and roll' music first emerged. People were unsure what kind of dance to do to the new style of music, and this included the big Decca Record company. When Decca released the soon-to-be mega hit "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets they labeled it as a "Foxtrot." Considering that song went on to sell more than 25 million copies, that makes "Rock Around the Clock" the biggest selling Foxtrot of all time.
Foxtrot is more appropriately danced to big band style music in 4/4 time. Called a "progressive" or "walking" dance, Foxtrot is a ballroom dance that travels across the floor.
